never alone.

it's chilly, but not cold

it's dark but not gloomy

you are solitary, but not alone

how can it be one, but not the other?

the wind is cool, holding a promise of frost, and bare arms are dotted with goose-bumps.

the sun is hidden since dusk, but memories of the past warm the heart, bringing a smile to frigid lips.

not cold. 

the sky is black, not yet spangled with stars

but the moon peeks out; only a sliver, like the beginning of a smile, casting golden moon-beams.

not gloomy. 

you are a single shadow upon the obscure land; standing still where your wandering feet stopped,

but you're not alone. your mind whirls with thoughts, creating images before your far-gazing eyes.

not alone. never alone. 

(just some words i wrote the other night. and the sky was beautiful last night--did anyone else see it?)
